Measles Outbreak Risk

With active measles cases increasing around the world, and falling vaccination rates, Aotearoa is at very high risk of experiencing an outbreak. Measles is highly contagious and is spread by coughing and sneezing. It is particularly dangerous for children under 5 and can lead to brain infections and pneumonia. The MMR vaccine is very effective at preventing measles and after 2 doses 99% of people are protected. We encourage all children to complete their 12 month and 15 month MMR doses on time but those 18 and under can catch up for FREE if they have not been immunised.

For more information please visit Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine or contact you GP to book your FREE vaccination.
